At the International Children’s Games a great deal of emphasis is placed on the cultural aspect of the Games with each host city organizing many events and opportunities for the athletes to make new international friends.
When the International Children’s Games were first established the goal was, and continues to be, ‘to enable, develop and advance the meeting, understanding and friendship of students from different countries and promote the Olympic ideal’.

The KICGC is thrilled that our Team Kelowna members are able to take part in cultural as well as sporting events as part of their team participation. The memories that team members bring back from the Games are just as much to do with the new friends they have made and the places they have visited, as they are to do with their sporting events.
Every host city organizes an Opening and Closing Ceremony to the Games, as well as evening entertainment and activities for their athletes and coaches.

When members visit a host city as part of Team Kelowna there is usually the opportunity to go sightseeing prior to the start of the Games. Sightseeing activities are often organized by the Team Kelowna Head of Delegation, who is usually a member of the Kelowna ICG Committee. Accompanying family members and friends are encouraged to participate in these team-bonding activities, as well as athletes and coaches, so that the whole Team Kelowna delegation can get to know each other. Families and friends have the opportunity to suggest sightseeing activities for the group and often form friendships that last many years beyond the five days of the Games.
